Sheriff of Ramsey County, Minnesota - January 2017 to Present

  • Chief Executive Officer for Sheriff’s Office of over 450 employees.
  • Direct the priorities of a budget of $57 million.
  • Provide strategic direction for all Sheriff’s Office operations.
  • Connect with community priorities to increase the level of service and transparency of Sheriff’s Office.
  • Engage in community, policy, and legislative initiatives to reflect county wide residents’ needs and interests.

  • Chief operating officer for Sheriff’s Office of over 400 employees.
  • Responsible for the fiscal direction of $54 million budget.
  • Manage the strategic direction of all Sheriff’s Office operations.
  • Lead labor negotiations with all 9 unions.
  • Administer professional standards investigations and the disciplinary process for all 5 divisions of the agency.
  • Serve as a Metro Sheriff’s representative on the State of Minnesota’s Violent Crime Coordinating Council.

Undersheriff for Public Safety Services Division - July 2012 to February 2015

  • Lead a division of 90 full-time personnel and 300 volunteers which serves as the police department for seven contract communities through its Patrol Unit, Criminal Investigation Unit, and Community Support Services Unit as a direct report to the Sheriff.
  • Work with six city managers from seven municipalities to deliver law enforcement services.
  • Administrator for the county-wide functions of Water Patrol, Crime Lab, and Property Room services.
  • Directly manage annual budget of $11.6 million.
  • Manage the implementation the Blue Print for Safety within the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office.
  • Led a division initiative for increasing participation in National Night Out by 28%.
  • Led Sheriff's Office role in expanding involvement in County domestic violence prevention. 
  • Increased technology infrastructure for Sheriff’s Office patrol services.
  • Increased relationships with community corrections for offender accountability.

Inspector for Water Patrol, Dive Team, Canine Unit, and Mobile Field Force, Arden Hills, MN - July 2011 to June 2012

  • Administrator for the special field operations of the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office; an independent command reporting directly to the Sheriff.
  • Directed the re-organization of the Water Patrol Unit consisting of full-time and part-time employees and volunteers.
  • Developed the competencies, equipment, and readiness of the Water Patrol, Dive Team, and Canine Units of the Sheriff’s Office.
  • Developed a new Mobile Field Force for the Sheriff’s Office comprised of 40 deputies as team commander.

Inspector for Policy Development-Office of the Sheriff - January 2011 to June 2011

  • Direct the development of a policy and procedure manual for the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office.
  • Investigate best practice trends in law enforcement for applicability to policy and practices of the Sheriff’s Office.
  • Wrote contracts for the Sheriff’s Office for purchasing needs.


  • Commander-Western District Investigations, Crime Prevention, and FORCE Unit, Saint Paul Police Department, October 2010 to January 2011                                                            
  • Supervise a staff (FORCE Unit) of one sergeant and eight officers involved in special operations, search warrants, street level narcotics interdiction, and problem property remediation.
  • Direct daily operations of property crime investigative sergeants.
  • Supervise crime prevention civilian staff and work with them on innovations to the departmental approach to community education and crime analysis.
  • Responsible for the implementation, compliance, and reporting of district grant funds.
  • Engage in community outreach through district councils, community education, working with council members, developing the Law Enforcement through Career Exploration academy with the YWCA, and meeting with community groups on topics of crime affecting them.

Patrol Sergeant-Central District - August 2010 to October 2010         
Directed daily patrol operations for a staff of 10-18 officers per shift.
Evaluated officers through the use of departmental performance measures.
Supervised in-progress criminal interdiction and patrol-initiated investigations.
Handled initial complaints against officers and completed internal investigations concerning police staff conduct.
